Flat Flora (English Pattern)

FLAT FLORA – CROCHET PATTERN

Flat Flora is a cozy friend for even the smallest family member. She can be used for both hugs and act as a pillow for the little ones and she loves to play peek-a-boo with her long fluffy ears!

Please use the tag #rikkewittendesign and/or #FlatFlora if you share photos of the things you crochet, using this pattern.

JOINING:

EYES are sewn onto one of the BODY-pieces. Since the pieces are crocheted back and forth, there is no right or wrongsides to the pieces.

TIP: Before the eyes are sewn onto the BODY, it would be a good idea to play with the placing a bit, in order to find the spot, that gives the bunny the perfect expression. When the perfect spot has been found, it can be a good idea to fasten the eyes with pins, in order to keep them from moving, while sewing.

THE STUFFING consists of 2 layers of batting, in order to keep the flatness, but still get a soft and fluffy toy. Since there is a huge difference in chrochet tension from person to person, there can be a difference in the size of the body. For that reason, I have chosen not to make a template for cutting the batting.
It is therefore up to you, to draw a template, by using one of the crocheted body-pieces. REMEMBER to make the template approx. 1 cm smaller than the body, all the way around, in order for the batting not to get lumpy due to lack of space, when the 2 pieces are joined!

The ears should notbe stuffed. The batting is therefore cut in a straight line at the top of the head, as shown in the photos.

THE BODY is joined by crocheting the 2 pieces together with the wrong sides facing inwards. (It is only the piece with the eyes, that has an actual right and wrong side, so the other piece can face which ever way you like.)

1. Place the 2 pieces on top of each other with the wrong sides facing inwards and the batting in between.

2. Secure the pieces with pins, in order to make sure they will not scew when you start joining them.

3. The body is crocheted together with 1 tread of Fake Fur (or similar) and 1 thread of the fingering cotton. The “Doube Sided sc”-method is used for the body part, in order to get an almost invisible join. In order to get the ears as flat as possible, the “Standard”-method is used for joining these parts. (Click the link/name for each joining method, to get to the guide with step-by-step photos and videoguide!)

4. Preferably, you can tack through the body and batting at the neck and legs, to secure the batting from moving around, as time passes.

5. Finish the joining round with a chin the first sc, cut the yarn and pull it all the way through the loop. Sew in all loose ends.

Done!
Congrats with your new flat friend. 😀
